The mirror
2024-08-31
One day a brahmin came to Gautama Buddha.
“Lord, there are many who claim to be mentors speaking of true Dhamma. How do I know whether they are correct or you are correct?”
Gautama Buddha replied
“If you can see yourself through the Dhamma of a mentor, you may accept it. No Dhamma is fruitful unless it reflects yourself to you.
The path of practice, Marga Darshana I offer is like a mirror that reflects yourself to you. My duty as a mentor is not to present my Dhamma to you, but to reflect yourself to you”.
“There could be uncountable numbers of mentors, but trust, only in those who succeed in exposing yourself to you, trust in paths of practice only that reveal yourself to you. There is no other better indicator to find out who your mentor is”.
“When you come across with your true path of practice you will know that what is described and reflected in it is nothing else, but yourself, you will feel that you are seeing yourself. Have no fear to follow that path since it is your unique path to Enlightenment ”.
“The path I offer you resembles a mirror, within which you will not see me, but yourself”.
Buddha will never say that “I am the Enlightened one ,or you won't have another mentor than me, therefore come follow me”.
“Buddha Darshana is such that it reveals yourself to you. What Buddha offers you is your own Darshana, your unique path so that you find yourself. If you do not find yourself in the path I offer you then do not trust me”.
“Do you know what your problem is? Your problem is that you are unaware of what your real problem is”.
“What you need is a method to get rid of yourself. No one attempts to get rid of one's self, instead always struggles to protect the self ”.
“For example if someone shouts at you, you immediately create a mental shield to justify yourself. If you get angry, you justify your anger. You find reasons to support your anger thus you protect yourself”.
“But within this Dhamma of Disentanglement , you find your path not to protect yourself but to expose the extent of your Ego,to expose the extent of your illusions and ignorance. You are deceived by no one but yourself”.
“When you try to protect yourself, your thoughts become selfish, aiming to somehow gain advantage to yourself, so you accept those who help you to gain things while rejecting those who do not”.
“Therefore read your mind, read your thoughts. Live in front of a mirror and watch yourself. There you will find the science behind your views, find Mindfulness, and find Vidarshana (cultivating Prajna relative to ignorance)”
“Write a quote on your mirror as “watch your thoughts” so every time you stand in front of it you will see yourself. It will become a meditative practice”.
“When you watch your mind and thoughts you cannot make any wrongdoings, cause you see yourself.
“When you take Dhamma only as facts, you manipulate your knowledge to justify yourself and nourishe your Ego, while your thoughts continue to process untamed”.
